The Dragoon Mts. east of Benson are one of the lower mountain ranges of
southeast Arizona's "sky islands". They're made largely of young granite, the
same formation responsible for the nice boulders along the roadside as
I-10 goes through Texas Canyon. I went up the Cochise Stronghold Trail,
which cuts directly across the range, on my way out to Phoenix for
Thanksgiving in 2004.
Morning in the Dragoons, just above the campgrounds at the trailhead,
24 Nov 2004.
A little later, East Stronghold Canyon, 24 Nov 2004.
Nice boulders and a view out into the flats, 11/24/04.
Closer view of some boulders. I like boulders.
