Old families and where they've gone:

Aceraceae --> now included in Sapindaceae

Adiantaceae --> included in Pteridaceae

Adoxaceae --> now includes some actinomorphic genera formerly included in Caprifoliaceae, e.g. Sambucus and Viburnum

Araliaceae --> now included in Apiaceae

Asclepiadaceae --> now included in Apocynaceae

Athyriaceae --> included in Dryopteridaceae

Caesalpinaceae --> included in Fabaceae

Capparaceae --> often included in Brassicaceae, but I'm leaving it separate.

Caprifoliaceae --> some genera formerly in Caprifoliaceae are now in Adoxaceae; genera formerly in Dipsacaceae and Valerianaceae are now in Caprifoliaceae

Compositae --> now Asteraceae

Cruciferae --> now Brassicaceae

Cuscutaceae --> included in Convolvulaceae

Dipsacaceae --> now included in Caprifoliaceae

Fumariaceae --> now included in Papaveraceae

Gramineae --> now Poaceae

Guttiferae --> now Clusiaceae

Hippocastanaceae --> now included in Sapindaceae

Hydrophyllaceae --> now included within Boraginaceae

Leguminosae --> now Fabaceae

Mimosaceae --> included in Fabaceae

Polypodiaceae --> older works use this family in a very broad sense, including members of what are now Aspleniaceae, Pteridaceae, Dryopteridaceae, etc.

Scrophulariaceae --> most genera previously in Scrophulariaceae are now in Plantaginaceae

Umbelliferae --> now Apiaceae

Valerianaceae --> now included in Caprifoliaceae

Woodsiaceae --> included in Dryopteridaceae
