Sitting Bull Falls is in the northern part of the Guadalupe Mts., north of the high
escarpment that forms the eastern boundary of the main body of the range. Like the rest of
the Guadalupe Mts., the area is limestone from an ancient reef. Sitting Bull Falls is
unusual for a waterfall in New Mexico in that it actually has water falling most or even
all of the year.
