Hordeum vulgare L.

The cultivated barley. In New Mexico it occasionally escapes cultivation and is sometimes seeded heavily in burned montane forest by the U.S. Forest Service.

Plant habit along NM Hwy. 152 just east of Emory Pass in the Black Range, Grant County, New Mexico, 15 Oct 2013. It was seeded throughout large expanses of the Black Range following the Silver Fire of June 2013.
