Oenothera pallida Lindl. subsp. gypsophila (Eastw.) Munz & W.Klein
A plant found on gypsum, as the name suggests. Leaves are greyer,
wider and less deeply divided than in other Oenothera pallida in southern New Mexico.
Plants at White Sands are sometimes referred to O. pallida ssp. runcinata,
although they do not have any particularly close resemblance to other members of that
subspecies, so far as I can tell.
A flower at White Sands National Monument, Otero County, New Mexico, 28 Jul 2007.
