The Black Range (also called the Mimbres Mountains) is a north-south igneous range running along the border of Grant & Sierra Counties. The range is densely forested and hence appears dark from the surrounding lowlands. NM highway 152 goes over Emory Pass, and a trail follows the crest of the range to the north and south.
