The Mineral Mountains are a north-south range of mixed geology. Granite Peak, as the name suggests, is made of granite. The granite is vertically-jointed and very similar in physiognomy to the granite of the Needles section of the Organ Mts.; this is, in fact, why I visited the Mineral Mountains. I'm not sure what the rest of the range is made of, but it doesn't look as interesting...

In one of the canyons below Granite Peak, 8/7/06.

Looking west from the Mineral Mts., 8/7/06. The town of Milford is visible in the valley (apparently called the "Escalante Desert") with the San Francisco Mountains at right and the Wah Wah Mts. forming the distant ridge at left.

A ridge sticking out to the west from Granite Peak, showing clearly the vertically-jointed outcrops.
